Opel’s Corsa is the sort of B-segment hatch you buy when you want your money to stretch, but you still care about how the thing feels on Jozi’s patchy tar or Cape Town’s tight suburbs. On paper at least, it’s fighting the Polo, Starlet, and Swift for every buyer counting their cents, and you’ll only find petrol engines here — either a trusty old 1.4 or a punchier 1.2 turbo with 74 kW. Manual gearboxes across the board, which is both a blessing for driving purists and a clear sign Opel’s playing to value-first shoppers. Prices are all over the map: R69,500 for a proper old-timer, up to R285,990 if you fancy something much newer, but with a median at R109,900, most of the real action is in the used, higher-mileage units. No new cars listed, so if you want a showroom-fresh Corsa, you’re out of luck — this is strictly a pre-loved affair. Drill down and you’ll see the 1.4 Essentia and 1.4 Enjoy five-doors hogging the listings between R69,500 and R122,900. That’s where most buyers end up, chasing affordability over flash. Cars on offer range from 1998 to 2025 model years, averaging 127,001 km on the odo, so you’d be mad not to get a full inspection before signing anything. If you can stretch to the 1.2T Edition at R222,888 or the 1.4T Sport at R181,500, you’re getting a far more modern machine — and that matters, because those turbocharged Corsas have cabins that actually feel a notch above a Swift or Starlet, and the Euro roots mean they soak up N14 corrugations better than you’d expect. The spec lineup makes sense for local buyers if you pack smart, but just know you’re shopping in a market where condition and service history are everything.
