Most of these cars hide a 66 kW 900T turbo triple under the bonnet, while a couple of 1.2-litre 55 kW examples round out the field. Fourteen cars isn’t much choice, so if you’re after a specific colour or trim, you’ll need to be patient and keep watching. Most stock sits in the Clio IV 900T Authentique camp, priced from R127,990 to R189,950, with the fancier Expression spec nudging the R200k ceiling. For a used hatch showing an average of 119,579 km (spanning model years 2010 to 2022, mind you), that upper end feels ambitious. Still, you aren’t getting demo cars tarted up to look fresh — these are honest, lived-in examples. What sets the Clio apart in this segment is its ability to actually deliver on the fuel-saving promise of that turbo engine, a cabin that feels a notch more European, and steering that’s more weighted than its Japanese rivals. On paper at least, the Clio gives you a hint of sophistication without sacrificing budget, and that’s the point: it’s what the Clio should have been from the start.
