You get a 2.0-litre turbo petrol up front, automatic gearbox, and that's your lot—no diesel option, which is a glaring gap for South African buyers who rack up long distances or haul trailers to the coast. Only a single example is even listed for sale, at R339,950, which is telling. You won't see these on every street corner in Sandton or Umhlanga, and that's the point. That lone advert is for a 2022 H9 2.0 Luxury 4x4 A/T, already sitting at 90,000 km. That's a fair chunk of mileage in just three years, and you'd want a forensic look at the service records before getting anywhere near the asking price. What drew most South African buyers to the H9, on paper at least, was the spec—leather, panoramic roof, 360-degree camera—all packed in for far less than an equivalent Fortuner. But the reality is, there's no new stock coming in, and with only one used example floating around, you're not going to have the upper hand in any bargaining. If you're after value, maybe give it a few months and see if more options surface.
