Honda’s Fit lines up against the Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Starlet, and Volkswagen Polo Vivo in SA’s B-segment hatchback ring, but it’s never been the obvious pick. Most South Africans after a city runabout with real practicality and decent running costs land elsewhere, probably because the Fit doesn’t offer a manual at all — just a CVT or, if you’re feeling flush, the E-CVT Hybrid. Power? A 1.5-litre petrol across the board. If you’re after one, good luck. There are only five active listings, spanning R248,888 to R439,800, with the median hovering at R287k. On paper at least, most buyers are gunning for Comfort and Elegance models, not the pricier Hybrid. The sweet spot is the 1.5 Comfort CVT — that’s where the real value sits, with examples clustered around R249k to R255k. Next up, the Elegance CVT at R286,900, which starts to look a bit ambitious. If you want the newer Comfort trim, you’re looking at R380,500, while the Hybrid E-CVT is a serious R439,800 commitment. These aren’t high-mileage cars, either: the average used Fit clocks in at just 27,320 km between model years 2022 and 2026. That’s low, and for a city hatch, it makes a difference. Where Honda sets itself apart is with those Magic Seats — you can carry a mountain bike or a small fridge without breaking a sweat, and neither the Baleno nor the Polo Vivo can really touch that. For buyers who actually use the back seat, that’s the point.
