Infiniti’s FX – later badged QX70 – is the forgotten middle child in the premium SUV pecking order. It arrived with the right badge and the right numbers, but never really convinced South Africans to pick it over a BMW X5, let alone a Porsche Macan. You’ll spot just one listing at R269,900, which sums up its local impact: this is for the fans, not the masses. The example in question runs a diesel with an auto box, which lines up with its long-distance cruiser vibe. On paper at least, that R269,900 price looks tempting for something that once elbowed for space with the big Germans, but you’ve got to weigh the bigger picture. That lone FX/QX70 is a 2017 30d S, showing 123,674 km, and it’s the only trim you’re finding here now. Mileage is fair for its age, but what drew in buyers back then was the car’s low, aggressive stance and a whiff of Nissan GT-R DNA under the bonnet – a combination that promised more than the X5’s staid uprightness. Still, Infiniti’s after-sales support in Mzansi is nearly invisible, and that matters. With no new stock and just this solitary example on offer, the FX/QX70 stands as more of a left-field collector’s oddity than a sensible daily driver for South African roads.
