Volvo’s S60 doesn’t exactly dominate local used-car lots, especially against the ever-present 3 Series, C-Class, and A4 – models that seem to multiply at every Gautrain station parking deck. Here, the S60 in question runs a turbo-petrol with a Powershift ‘box, and it’s a bit of a unicorn: just one example for sale, pegged at R149,900. That single listing is a 2015 model, and on paper at least, it’s far cheaper than its German peers of similar vintage. But that number’s more about its 184,928 km mileage than any brand snobbery – you’re not getting a bargain if you’re not ready for what comes next. This is the T4 Excel Powershift, and it’s lived – nearly 185,000 km means you’ll want every service stamp you can find. There’s real appeal if you’re after old-school Volvo build, with that honest, pre-Geely interior feel (the seats still put newer Germans to shame). Still, parts can be a mission, and Volvo’s dealer network isn’t nearly as thick on the ground as Munich or Stuttgart’s finest. The low price dangles some Swedish intrigue for those willing to play the long game, but you’ll need an honest conversation with your bank account. If you pack smart and budget for maintenance, there’s value – just remember, the sticker price is only the start, and that’s the point.
