Foton tunland g7

Foton’s Tunland G7 isn’t shy about what it wants to be: a value-driven, Chinese-built double cab punching straight for the soft underbelly of the Hilux, Ranger, and D-Max crowd. Only diesel engines here, with both manual and auto boxes, and you get your pick of 4x2 or 4x4—about as broad as you’ll find in this price-sensitive corner of the market. Ten active listings isn’t much, but the sticker prices are the real headline: R404,900 to R559,870, with most hovering around R420,000. Foton’s not pretending to be a Toyota, and that matters. You’d be hard-pressed to find a new Hilux or Ranger with comparable spec for this kind of money, which is exactly why the G7 is even in the conversation. Most are new stock, with a mere handful of used units, all basically fresh from delivery.

Where it gets interesting is the Single Cab 4x4 Hi-Rider Manual—priced from R404,900 to R419,900. On paper at least, that’s a sharp deal for small fleet buyers and tradesmen who need proper off-road chops but balk at shelling out Hilux money. Step up to the Double Cab 4x4 TLX Auto at R559,000 and the math starts favouring the old guard, because Toyota’s badge pull and dealer network are still king in Mzansi. Used G7s are barely run in—averaging just over 14,000 km—so you’re looking at demo stock more than bargain-basement workhorses. What’s clear is that the South African buyer in this space is willing to gamble on a relatively unknown badge if it means more bakkie for less money. The Tunland G7 leans hard into that logic, and for some, it’ll be enough.
