12+ Volkswagen Touareg Cars for Sale in South Africa

Volkswagen’s Touareg carves out its own space in the premium SUV crowd, facing off against heavy hitters like the BMW X5, Mercedes GLE, and Land Rover Discovery Sport. You’re looking at German luxury with a badge that won’t shout about it as loudly as its rivals, and that matters for a certain kind of buyer. Every SA-market Touareg is diesel—no petrol, no hybrid—so if you want that 3.0 TDI V6 grunt, you’re sorted, but don’t expect more variety. The classifieds are slim: just 18 Touaregs listed, from R159,900 to a punchy R2,033,300, with a median of R1,414,450. That shows where most deals are struck—definitely towards the top end. Only eight are new, so buying nearly-new or demo is probably your best bet if you’re after value.

The R-Line spec is where the real interest sits, with ten of those listings falling between R1,379,950 and R2,033,300. For used buyers, the V6 TDI Executive R-Line is the one to look at—four examples priced from R819,995 to R1,239,995, and the whole used fleet shows impressively low mileage, averaging just 37,975 km. That ancient 2007 Touareg at R159,900? Outlier, not the norm. What the Touareg offers is a cabin that feels properly upmarket, especially with the R-Line’s kit and adaptive air suspension, and a price tag that undercuts its Bavarian and Swabian cousins. It’s what the Touareg should have been from the start: understated luxury, solid value, and just enough exclusivity to make you feel like you’ve made a canny choice.
